Academic Success through Power Hour/Project LEARN

Power Hour helps Club members of all ages achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, high-yield learning activities, and encouraging members to become self-directed learners. By participating in Power Hour, members can earn positive incentives such as snacks, parties, field trips and more.

Academic success through S.T.E.A.M.

S.T.E.A.M. is a program based on educating students in five specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. S.T.E.A.M. education encompasses every aspect of our lives. Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City S.T.E.A.M. programs help bridge the gap between S.T.E.A.M. and real-world scenarios, we focus on hands-on, project-based learning, for students to explore the various disciplines that S.T.E.A.M. has to offer.

Academic success through Reading Intervention

Readers are Leaders is a program that teams up young members of the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral city with teen leaders. In our small group setting, one-to-one takes place not on a basketball court or athletic field but at a reading table. These students find the encouragement, support, and high expectations that will lead to their enthusiasm and growth as readers. The teens change as they invest their time to help these kids—change because they begin to understand the responsibility and power of being a role model, and change because they have developed bonds with these younger students and helped them experience the rewards of reading. This summer break, fall break, and winter break not only eliminates summer reading loss but our young people actually gain in reading performance.

Academic success through One-on-One Tutoring

One-on-one tutoring is a personalized learning experience where a tutor focuses solely on a student’s academic needs. Tutors can assess a student’s strengths and weaknesses, identify learning gaps, and tailor their teaching style to suit the student’s learning style. This can help students make progress at their own pace and focus on areas where they need more help. One-on-one tutoring can be used to help students learn how to read, write, and do math, and can also help students who are struggling with skills in these areas.
